Pedro Alvarez is an immigrant from The Dominican Republic.  He is the third of four children. As a child he started running errands for merchants at the local market in Santo Domingo. Shortly after, he was helping one of them to keep track of merchandise received and sold. It was not a mystery that the young Pedro had a business inclination. He became an empirical bookkeeper for merchants who valued his integrity and creative mind. He says that he learned strong work ethics and the meaning of perseverance to succeed from his hard-working mother.  Pedro moved to New York City in 1992, knowing no English at all. He obtained his associate degree from Monroe College attending school at night after a long day at work. He did it to supplement his income while finishing his Bachelor’s degree at Fordham University.  Pedro Alvarez is a successful entrepreneur, founder of P. Alvarez Associates in the Bronx.  He has given countless hours of his time to share his knowledge and to help those who cannot help themselves. He volunteered his time to teach free entrepreneurship workshops at the Hope Center in the heart of Harlem.  He helped organize several not-for-profit organizations and several churches. He is a strong supporter of organizations that focus on youth issues such as college enrollment incentive, mentoring, summer job programs, and internships. Pedro has been a strong supporter and participant with NAACP.  He went from being a member of the parents association at the Family Life Academy Charter School in the Bronx, to become its Chair. Today, the Family Life Academy Charter School is a network of 3 schools ranking among the best performing charter schools in New York State.
